This is a totally non-polical diary. It is a personal rumination on the question of Forgiveness. I am not a psychologist in any form. I teach community college math, and I enjoy contemplation on deep questions of all sorts. I put this out there to get feedback from people who might know better than I how to improve this line of reasoning. Please feel free to rip it to shreds in the comments if you think I'm totally wrong.
The process of Recovery from an Offense is:
Survival -- the immediate physical separation from an offense.
Reconstruction -- the long-term healing of its physical effects.
Forgiveness -- the inner peace of choosing to forego revenge.
Absolution -- the gift of purging the offense from active memory.
Reconciliation -- the joy of reunion.
These steps must proceed in this order for genuine reunion to occur, but any of the five steps may serve as an endpoint. So the question you must answer for yourself is, "What endpoint do you want to achieve?" I generally recommend at least Forgiveness.
